Unit 4

Monster
I'm happy with how this turned out. I spent a lot of time glazing this peice and perfecting it so I'm glad it worked out. If i had to change anything I would have chosed lighter glazes for the head and body because it doesn't look as accurate to the kids drawing with the colors I chose. I also wouldv'e been more careful with the teeth because one of them broke off while I was glazing
Alebrije
I'm very happy with how my apple snail turned out. I sculpted this with terracotta, first shaping the body and shell separately, scoring and slipping them together, and refining the details. I then painted a base coat of blue acrylic paint, then added all the details, and fully sealed all the paint with liquid glue painted over. I added holes at the top of the shell as a way for light to peek through if I put lights or a candle inside. I fully hollowed it out as well. If I had to do anything differently, I would add more precise patterns with the acrylic paint, but I really like my process and the result.

Series of 4
I am okay with how my series of 4 turned out. I did a small set of plates, carving each of them out and creating a bowl like ridge. I did not end up firing this peice or refining it because I wasn't liking how it looked. If I had to do this differently I would definately choose a different concept that matched better.
Lidded box
I am happy with how my lidded box turned out. I hand sculpted this shape, as if I was making a pinch pot. I used a ruler and a fettling knife to achieve the box shape. I used a rolling pin to create the lid, flattening the clay and carving out a square shape with my fettling knife. I then coated the entire peice with blue underglaze while the peice was leather hard and carved out my sgrafito design. I fired it and then used clear glaze. If I had to do anything differently I would have used a rolling pin for the base of the box to make it a more precise square, but I like the result of mine.
